2019 Foals

Rojos Melo Ruffian

I was very surprised to see a black filly be born out of Dolly! According to both Dolly and Beau's color genetics, they had only a 12.5% chance of having either a black or smokey black foal.  The kids became instantly attached to her, and named her Ruffian, after the 1970's black filly racehorse Ruffian.

At twelve hours old Ruffian let the girls and myself be close to her with little to no fear of us.

By the time she was 3 months old she had shed her baby coat and her black as coal hair gleamed in the sun!

When it came time to take her to the Powder River Quarter Horse Breeders Association sale in Broadus, the kids were telling potential buyers about how wonderful a filly she was to have around all summer!

I hoped that a family with kids would buy her, and my hopes were not let down!  Ruffian left Montana for Minnesota that weekend with an amazing family with two little kids who already love her so much and plan on showing her in the Yearling Futurity in 2020!

I will be updating Ruffian's information as it get it in the coming years!

Rojos Sunny Scotch

20190501_112019.jpg

Rojos Sunny Scotch had a bit of a rough first day in life, he was born in a snow storm at the end of April.  But you'd never know it after seeing how he filled out so beautifully!  Scotch was a feisty and rambunctious little guy from the beginning.  He got a kick out of running back and forth between places while he followed his mom around.

By the time he was 3 months old, I noticed he had a striking resemblance to Beau when he was that same age! Scotch was such a handsome colt, I thought he would make a great stallion prospect if we were to keep him.

All through the summer he was so friendly with everything we did with him.  The kids did most of his halter breaking.

We had many questions about him at the sale in Broadus.  He ended up being bought by a couple who live just north of Alzada, Montana.  We plan on stopping by to see him when we can, and I hope they take me up on my offer to work with him over the summer.

Hopefully I will be able to update his information more in the future!
